Kavoos and Diana, had the burning desire to hold an adventurous elopement in Lapland! Which is quite brave considering they are California natives and during winter northern Finland is well below freezing. But sometimes a location and the opportunity to see Northern Lights is all it takes to muster up courage to have an epically snowy incredible experience!
During the months of December and January, Lapland is in full swing of “polar nights,” which means the sun doesn’t actually rise and the “blue light” daylight hours are between 1-2 hours a day. Our adventure wedding planning team, crafted an epic adventure wedding day at the Kakslauttanen Igloo Resort (the famed igloo hotel).
But! Since there adventurous elopement in Lapland was so BEAUTIFUL… we need break it into 2 blog posts! So today we will share with you their stunning ceremony and first half of their adventure wedding. Then stay tuned next week for the second and most adventurous half (hello dog sledding, styled reception for two, and reindeer Northern Lights hunting!).
With a smile, Ann Peters + Team (Lapland Wedding Planner + Photographer)
Kakslauttanen Igloo Resort offers a uniquely beautiful experience in the Kelo-Glass Igloo Cabins! Imagine waking up in one of these for our adventurous wedding in Finland! Kavoos and Diana did during their elopement adventure in Lapland and savored every second of it!
The Polar Nights in Lapland are an amazing sight! although the sun doesn’t not rise, if it’s clear, you get a “mock”sunrise like this during the beginning of January! So dream for your Finnish elopement!
These two would make any Finland wedding photographer swoon! So in love!
Just because you decide to elopement, does not mean you should skimp on the details! How stunning is this Lapland wedding ceremony setup?!
Ohhhh these petals!!! My favorite shade of PINK! Thanks Flyboy Naturals!
A glas teepee makes such a beautiful Lapland wedding ceremony location!
Northern Lights wedding photos can always be possible during a Lapland winter wedding!
The Lapland wedding image below might go down as one of my top FAVORITE images, ever! So much snowy goodness and beauty!

Thanks for joining us for Part 2 of Liz and Mike’s magical Norway wedding in the Geirangerfjord! If you missed Part 1 of their Norway wedding at Hotel Alexandra, head back HERE to see. I’m going to go minimal on my commentary today because the photos will blow you out of the water!
One of my all time favorites from Mike and Liz’s Norway destination wedding day is below. Magical, just magical, right?! The Geiranger area is full of secret spots like these!
Our second stop on our Norway adventure wedding schedule was this fabulous point. Mike and Liz did a little fun hike to get to the top of this rock formation and the rest was beautiful history!
A summer wedding in Norway in this Geirangerfjord area will still carry a snow in the mountains. Driving through this valley area from Loen, is one of my favorite drives in Norway. How perfect for your Norway wedding, right?!
After a small sketchy hike, Mike and Liz found their way to this amazing spot overlooking the Geirangerfjord in all of it’s glory.I assure you the spot was 100% safe and I was probably in more danger than they were because of my angle =)
These two were the perfect combo for this incredible Norway wedding photo stop!
Total magazine cover, right?! Leaves me breathless.
This couple and this view! The heavens opened for this amazing Norway wedding in the Geirangerfjord!
There amazing group of 16 guests travelled from California for this surprise Norway wedding adventure! …and they were in total awe all day!
As we made our way through the Geirangerfjord and down to the docks, we stopped for a few minutes for a sweet champagne toast!
I found myself addicted to sooo many spots throughout this Geirangerfjord area! The character and the charm were off the charts!
When we were Norway wedding planning with Liz and Mike, they wanted to take their guests not just on a experience, but a super fun activity to do together during the day. Their favorite option we proposed was a 90 minute boat ride through the inspiring Geirangerfjord.
Norway Wedding Photos with the famed Seven Sisters Waterfall in the background! Swoon!
After the Geirangerfjord wedding boat adventure concluded, we were off to one of our final stops which included a beautiful mountain view on one side and sweet little Norwegian waterfall on the other!
Nothing better than a bride and groom being super adventurous on their wedding day skipping over rocks and water! Mike and Liz were willing to go whereever for the best Norway wedding photos!
I’m totally OBSESSED with this waterfall in the Geirangerfjord! How perfect for a destination wedding in Norway, right?!
Mike + Liz, We know Norway will forever be a part of your love story and souls. But we challenge you to come back to this intoxicating country each year on your Norway wedding anniversary to explore a new part of the country as your love grows!
With a smile, Ann Peters + Team (Adventure Wedding Photographers + Planners)

What better place to hold your destination wedding or whimsical elopement than in between Norway and the North Pole?
There you will find a series of Archipelago Arctic islands called Svalbard (formally owned by Norway).
If you’re a lover of mysterious adventure, colder temperatures, unique wildlife, colorful villages, and rugged natural beauty- This unforgettable location may be just what you’re after for your adventure wedding location!
It’s an island that is home to 2,000 polar bears and only 3,000 people. Temperatures are typically between 7°F (winter) to 40°F (summer). Can you picture yourself arriving to your ceremony location on dog sleigh or on snow mobile? Or saying “I do” under the magical breathtaking Northern Lights? Or on a boat in front of a glacier #yesplease! #mostuniqueweddingphotosever
Your Svalbard destination wedding or elopement may not only be an adventure filled day, but it very well may be an unforgettable expedition! Feel free to contact us for information on getting married in this practically unheard of Norway adventure wedding location!

Greenland… one of my personal Nordic destination wedding loves!
This fabulous icy country doesn’t get enough love and attention from the destination wedding industry and frankly it should for many reasons!
Planning a Greenland Wedding, is for couples who are truly fearless explorers at heart, cold weather lovers, and have an unquenchable curiosity! Is this you? If so, you can look forward to having a destination wedding or romantic elopement in one of the most mysterious places in the world (it’s been said to be in the top 10)!
Having a Wedding in Greenland means you are snuggled within the Arctic Circle and between several bodies of water such as Baffin Bay, Labrador Sea, Greenland Sea, and the Davis Strait… Who can say that they were married between all that? Very few people in the world, I assure you!
Plus what adventurous wedding couple wouldn’t want to arrive to their Greenland wedding ceremony by dogsled? Then partake in Greenland wedding adventures (or honeymoon) such as mountaineering, heliskiing, iceberg hunting, scuba diving, whale watching, and even flight seeing over the vast tundras!
The list is seriously endless! I can just see your Greenland wedding invitation now… “Save-the-Date: We’re getting married in the Arctic Circle!” Heck yes! Let’s make it happen people… contact us!
With a smile, Ann Peters (Greenland Wedding Planner and Adventure Wedding Photographer)

The definition of serendipity is defined as being, “a fortunate accident” by my all-time favorite movie, Serendipity.
I am firm believer in being in the right place at the right time. I’m also always fascinated by the fact that is exactly how the best love stories begin. …and our clients, for some reason, always seem to have this theme in common and especially since adventurous folks tend to find each other. This week’s fabulous featured destination wedding couple, is no exception. Sarah and Alex met in Sydney, Australia’s market square one random Saturday morning, which then led into several years adventuring together conquering, discovering, pushing their limits and comfort zones through travel and unforgettable experiences!
Sarah and Alex began planning their Nordic Elopement with us, shortly after the contest close, in March 2015 and were open to being married in all of the Arctic countries and wholeheartedly embraced the adventure wedding concept, the unique challenges and scenes each country presented! Our team at Your Adventure Wedding, presented many unforgettably unique itinerary options in the following countries: Lapland (Northern Finland), Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Lofoten Islands (Northern Norway), and the Faroe Islands. In the end, Sarah and Alex craved the extreme snow, Northern Lights, and the very distinct activities the Lapland route held.
So it was then, that Alex and Sarah very enthusiastically decided, they would elope on Tuesday, December 1st 2015 in Lapland! This timing also coincided to be at the beginning of their month long holiday to discover Europe! Neither one of their families knew about their secret entry to the Nordic Elopement Contest or their plans to take their relationship to the next level, but were thrilled to see the stunning images our sister company, Photos by Miss Ann captured afterwards!
The trek to Lapland begins in Helsinki, Finland and then you take a Finnair flight to Ivalo (approx. 2 hours). The magnificent Kakslauttanen Igloo Village was chosen as the Lapland adventure wedding host hotel and resides an easy 40 minute drive from the Ivalo airport.
The morning of the wedding began at 6:30am with Sarah and Alex getting ready in their comfy Kelo-Glass Igloo Cabin and by 8:15am they were in route to their romantic wedding ceremony! …and boy were they surprised when they arrived! A beautifully lit glass teepee stood out in the early morning darkness! (Side Note: There was only 1.5 hour of daylight during this specific day so time was needed to be planned and used wisely). As they walked towards the teepee, candles and rose petals summoned them to come inside. The dreaminess doubled as they opened the door… Thousands of multicolored rose petals (compliments of Flyboy Naturals) and tea lights overtook the floor. Your Adventure Wedding, honestly made it look like a romantic scene from a movie! Sarah glided over them all smiles as she met Alex at the end! They were married by a Scandinavian Civil Authority in a sweet little elopement ceremony and continued on with their epic adventure in Lapland!
We whisked them away to a path that led down to the famed glass igloos we have all had on our token “bucket list” and then onto a snowy quite cabin area nearby the national park and had a passionate toast to their newly wedded bliss! They trekked around hand in hand in the knee high snow after for the perfect winter wedding portraits! As the sun set and the darkness crept in, it was time for their afternoon adventure wedding activity, dog sledding! Sarah and Alex bundled up and savored every second of their intoxicating journey mushing the dogs through the Lappish wilderness! The action packed schedule, still allowed for a little break to warm up, relax, and catch their second wind too. 5 o’clock brought a visit to Santa’s Village, because after all how can you visit Lapland, the origin of Santa without paying the man a visit, right?!
Nighttime wedding portraits officially began and Photos by Miss Ann was fully equipped to create some amazing images that night. A gorgeous bridge outside of Santa’s home provided the essence of the snowy backdrop that Sarah and Alex yearned for as you’ll see below. They ran around together laughing and exploring the Igloo Village for about another hour then it was time for their sweetly styled (by us, Your Adventure Wedding) reception for two!
As they entered into their private luxury elopement reception space, they noticed the beautiful rose petals from Flyboy Naturals accented the table and transformed the floor into a magical space! Finnish handmade reindeer His & Hers scarves served not only as their party favors for the night but also their chair ties! A “Love” marque sign set the background of their sweetheart table. Other Nordic wedding reception details they found where Mr. + Mrs. Burlap accented glasses, and slate colored napkins which were tied with a triangle mountain “bride” and groom” napkin ring. Swoon-worthy details!
During their last course of their delicious 4 course dinner and conversation, the Northern Lights faintly appeared! Perfect timing too as it was time for the last portion of their 16 hour wedding adventure through Lapland… a horse drawn sleigh ride through the fresh snow that fell throughout the day’s expedition! Nothing like ending your whimsical Nordic elopement snuggled up in a sleigh together! Half way through the ride we were able to stop the horse for some snowy and faint Northern Lights wedding photos! What a grand way to end such a magical unforgettable day in Lapland! Please enjoy Sarah + Alex’s Finland wedding portraits at the Igloo Hotel & Village below (compliments of Photos by Miss Ann)!
